Item #068440 50 Years in the Saddle Vol I (first edition)

50 Years in the Saddle Vol I (first edition)

Watford City, ND: 50 Years in the Saddle Club, 1963. First Edition. Hardcover. This marvelous history book was written by dozens of members of the 50 Years in the Saddle Club. This northwestern North Dakota club is only open to ranchers and cowboys and cowgirls who have worked in the saddle for at least 50 years. Their first hand stories are incredible.A few of the writers just documented when they came to ND, who they married, how many children, etc. A few are written about various people by Andrew Johnston, but most are first hand accounts from the late 1800s into the twentieth century. John Goodall, for instance, starts by saying he was the only boss Teddy Roosevelt ever had. Three other volumes followed this one, but this one is the best reading.
This area was one of the last places in the United States to be reached by railroad, so in a sense in was part of the final frontier.
442 pp. The binding is tight and there is no writing in the book. Green cloth boards. Near Fine / No Jacket as Issued.
