A collection of twenty short stories by Jesse Stuart, gathered from magazines (about 1939–1965). They are set in his eastern Kentucky / W-Hollow country with farms, hollows, moonshine, kin, shooting matches, and talk.
Jesse Stuart (1906–1984) was the Greenup County poet-novelist of Man with a Bull-Tongue Plow, Taps for Private Tussie, and The Thread That Runs So True. These stories are the same world in shorter form -- realistic, sometimes edged with tall-tale or mild fantasy, usually with a clear moral or comic point.
ABOUT THIS COPY: This inscribed copy is a fifth printing. Boards are a two-toned cream cloth and and seafoam green paper. Covers are plain with black and burgundy lettering on a cloth spine. Deckled foredge. Endpapers are a light mint green. 243 pp. Illustrated dust jacket is lovely with monochromatic teal, black and off white colors.
